Valerie Love (Rutherford)
Houston native Valerie began playing volleyball at the age of 11. She fell in love with the sport and the competition aspect. At age 15, she relocated to Waco, where in high school she started as a left-handed outside hitter for Lorena High School under Coach Paula Spaulding (Payne). At Lorena, Valerie earned 1st Team ALL- District for District 3A for two years. Valerie continued to develop her tenure, playing for many clubs, including Baylor University. Once graduating from Lorena High School, she then set her sites on the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Throughout her collegiate career,Valerie played intramural volleyball, graduating in 2010, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Family Education.
This is Valerie's first season here with Slam Volleyball. When she is not coaching with Slam, she is a 6th/7th reading teacher, 7th Grade volleyball coach, and 7th/8th track coach for Plano ISD. While under her leadership, Valerie advanced her teams in volleyball tournaments for the first time in many years for the school's volleyball program. She loves her job and working with such talented young ladies. Besides coaching and playing volleyball, Valerie enjoys volunteering at her church, exercising, practicing yoga, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
